There is not a lot in Pyli apart from the spring water fountain, and small village square, but drive a short way up into the hills to OLD PYLI, you can leave your car/bike at the bottom and then take a 30 minute or so uphill walk to the most amazing old ruins.
At the present time they are carrying our renovations and the top half is closed off. At the top the is an old Crusader Castle. You should really be fit and healthy, I am niether and I was Knackered by the time I reached the first level, but the superb views make the climb wothwhile.
There is another way if you are in a Jeep, when you reach where most people stop and park to start the walk, carry on and take a left turn ( there is a notice saying "Donkeys for Rent" ) and carry on up the old track, be warned it is a little hairy. When you arrive at the top you will get some great views and if you need to spend a penny, there is a great toilet.

Had been before so knew what to expect. The views from here across the Island are brilliant and worth the trip just for these. T here are the usual shops for the tourists but all we bought was some Olive oil.

Drove to Old Pyli from Kos Town. When you get to Pyli you think theres nothing there, but you can park at the bottom and walk up LOTS of steps up a hill to some really interesting ruins, like old churches etc. It was a fair walk, but worth it. My ears were ringing when we left, because there are so many noisy bugs in the trees! There is a small restaurant near the top, but we didn't go in. Worth a visit.

Take some time to wander round, anjoy a relaxing lunch in the main square - then get in your hire car, throw the map in the back seat and just explore the mountains!!

Terry E

Not a lot in Pyli, but drive a short way up into the hills to Old Pyli and there you will find, after a brisk uphill walk the most amazing old ruins, including right up on the summit a really old crusader castle. Superb views make the climb wothwhile, although finding the actuall entrance can be a little tricky.

Pleasant inland town, worth spending a couple of hours in. Quite a few craft jewellers, and the usual tavernas etc. around the main square, though the village does spread out along the road. If you go there from Kardamanena, the views acccross the island are worth seeing.

Rachel P

not much here!
