Camelot - (Restaurants in Kardamena)

Alex G

We came here only once after being hassled every night we walked past.  The restaurant is quite a nice place.  The kitchen is in a building on the opposite side of the road with the waiters bringing the food over.  I ordered Arribiatta and my girlfriend ordered Soudsouskakia.

The service was fine and the waiters were very friendly, and we were served promptly.  Thats were the experience then went downhill.  When the food arrived I was please to see nice big plates and lots of food.  The only problem was the taste.  The Arribiatta wasnt spicey at all and tasted very bland.  The Soudsouskakia wasnt as bad but still wasnt very tasty.  So overall, nice service, fair prices but tasteless food.

Day trip to Turkey - (Kos Excursions)

Alex G

We booked our trip to Bodrum from the travel agents just down from Avli's but not at the end, (they had english speaking staff).  It costs 23 euros, which got us a 20 min coach ride to Kos town, then a hydrofoil to Bodrum, then a free small coach trip around the Island stopping for a photo shoot at the hill above the town.  We then got dropped off at the Gold Center and received a free glass of orange juice followed by a crappy talk about all the cheap jewellery available.  After this we were free to go about Bodrum and haggle with the many "genuine fakes" shops.

The tour rep "Bob" was brilliant Clap, a really nice guy who knew the answer to most questions about buying and haggling with the shop owners.  The shops in the old town are pretty much full of the same fakes.  Not much has a price on it and as soon as you stop to look at anything the guys are on you for a sell.  I picked up a pair of jeans, tried them on, but they didnt fit me, so i wanted to give them back.  I wasnt trying to haggle or anything, but the guy was dropping the price every tmie I said I didnt want them.  So if you do want something, that isnt a bad way to get the lowest price.  I ended up buying a pair of Diesel jeans for 40 euro.  Most of the guys are really friendly and you can have a good laugh just trying to be cheeky with the price.

We didnt have any of the problems that some people said about queueing at passport checking, but we went on a friday when it is alot less busy, and apparently you can get better deals in the shops because of this.

Scuba Diving - (Kos Excursions)

Alex G

We booked our scuba diving trip with agents outside Louis supermarket next to the taxi rank ni Kardemena.  At 48 euros each, we thought it was quite alot at first, but the experience was well worth it.  We were due to be picked up at the Aeolos travel offices on a Monday morning at 9.15, but after waiting till 9.50 with no coach pick-up, we went back to the office who apologised for the mix up and booked us in for the next day.

The mini bus picked us up the next day and took 5 of us to the diving centre down the road from Kardamena.  We then met the rest of the punters and got aboard a small boat (like a pirate ship).  This took us west and stopped near the big mountains.  I had never scuba dived before and I thought that we needed lots of instructions and practice first, but we were given a 5-10 min talk about signal instructions from the captain, who knew his stuff, he'd been diving for 27 years.  We were put into 3 groups (3 or 4 in each group), we got the wet suits on first and swam in the water for 15-20 mins to get used to the temperatures.  Then we were kitted up and were taken underwater for a 20 min dive.

While under the water we were given abit of bread and the fish come swarming around you to eat it.  You can feel them nibbling your fingers but nothing painfull.  After the dive you are given a sandwich and a drink and are then free to snorkel while everyone else takes there turn.

We managed to get a ride on the speedboat all the way back to Kardamena, which was quite fun on its own.  We really enjoyed the day and it was well worth the price. Smile

Trip to Nysiros Volcano - (Kos Excursions)

Alex G

The coach trip gave a nice view of the Island even if on a few dodgy mountain top roads.  I wish we would have had longer in the crater itself, we only got 30-35 mins there which didnt leave enough time to walk around the crater.  Then we had to go back to the coach, just to spend the rest of the trip in the little town (which is very nice).  The crater was good with the water in the holes bubbling, just be carefull where you stand, the floor can be quite hot and I only had flip flops on.  The crater stinks of rotten eggs from the sulpher but overall well worth it.

Corner Bar - (Bars in Kardamena)

Alex G

The Corner Bar was the first bar we went in every night.  The music was great and Dan was a nice guy getting us free tickets to all the clubs.  Until reading this we only suspected Dan as being the Ultimate pull man in Kardamena,Clap lol, we always saw him chatting up the girls!!!

Metro Club - (Bars in Kardamena)

Alex G

This bar was ace for going to after 12 when the music goes off.  The staff are really friendly and the music is really chessey.  Sang lots of songs, still cringing about it now!  Embarrassed
