Tingaki Resort - (Resorts on Kos)

Matt J          10/10

click to enlargeThis resort was fantastic!  There are plently of restaurants and tavernas offering a huge range of both sit-down meals and take aways.  There are also plently of bars (but if it is clubs you are after you are probably best off going to Kardemena!).  The people you meet are really friendly and helpful.

We had an extremely large supermarket (Konstantinos) opposite our hotel which sold everything we could ever have needed.  English newspapers could be purchased each day (the correct days paper).

If you want to book any excursions, Theokritos Travel would be the best place to go to in my opinion (situated on the main road, on the left hand side as if you were facing the beach).

Unfortunately my partner was ill early into our holiday and we had to call the English speaking Doctor.  He was very good.  Very friendly and very helpful.  His English was excellent.  Be aware though that call-outs to your hotel room will cost you 80 Euros unless your insurance covers this.  We gave them our insurance details and we actually had an excess of 110 Euros but the doctor said we can just pay his 80 Euros instead.

We stayed at Sunset Hotel and would not want to stay anywhere else as the hotel was top class and the staff were fantastic.

Our holiday was ace and would reccomend Tingaki to anybody.  We stayed 4th July 2007 to 18th July 2007 and the weather was hot hot hot.

P.S. if you are a smoker you may be pleased to know you can bring back 3200 cigarettes!

Kosmar - (Tour Operators on Kos)

Matt J          7/10

Having booked our holiday almost a year before we flew we were dissapointed to recieve our tickets just a couple of days before we flew - although this was our only niggle with Kosmar.

Our rep, Billie-Joe was extremely friendly and was at our hotel every day to answer any questions you may have.

July - (Best Time to Visit)

Matt J          10/10

We stayed in Tingaki between 4th and 18th July 2007 and the weather was extremely hot!

Meni Restaurant - (Restaurants in Tingaki)

Matt J          8/10

We ate here on our first night in Tingaki and thought the food, staff and prices were fantastic.

We (two of us) paid 25 Euros (approx £17.50) for two courses (starter and main) and a couple of drinks each.

We had Cheese Saganaki for starters and Special Gyros and Chicken Souvlaki for our main.

Sagittarius Restaurant - (Restaurants in Tingaki)

Matt J          10/10

click to enlarge click to enlargeThe first time we ate here we spent 15 Euros (approx £10.50) on a meal for 2.  We did not have starters - just 2 main courses (Spicy Meatballs with Spaghetti and a Greek Salad) and 2 cocktails.  We also recieved free shots after our meal.  The food was fantastic.

Since then, we must have visited Sagitarius at least 4/5 more times for meals or take-aways.  Just about everything on thier menu can be taken out (except Soup!) and the food was always excellent.  We tried baked potatoes, pizzas, pasta dishes, etc and all of it was extremely cheap and tasted fantastic.

I would reccomend this restaurant to anybody in Tingaki.  The staff are fantastic.

Tingaki Grill - (Restaurants in Tingaki)

Matt J          5/10

Ate here once, wouldn't go back.

The food tasted great (Drinkers Gyros with Chips & Veg/Stuffed Peppers & Tomatoes) and the prices were very reasonable (18.70 Euros including the above food and 3 drinks).

The woman who ran the restaurant however is the reason I wouldn't go back.  After being pounced on in the street, we decided to give the place a try and found ourselves to be the only people inside.  She watched us like a hawk whilst we were eating.  My partner had been feeling ill the night before and didn't have an appetite but we decided to try have a nice meal anyway.  Unfortunately she could not eat much in Tingaki Grill and the woman watching didn't help matters.  She then came over saying "Why? Why? Why aren't you eating it?".   We wouldn't have minded if she had asked us politely but it was just the way she was speaking to us.  She then started asking if I'd done anything to upset my partner!

Again, the food and prices were great.  Perhaps I just caught the woman on a bad day...

Rodini - (Restaurants in Tingaki)

Came here alot while we were in Tingaki for meals and takeaways.  The food was fantastic (we tried pasta, gyros, kebabs, souvlaki, jacket potatoes) and all very reasonably priced.

The staff were great and the restaurant was always busy!

Highly reccomended!

Kos Airport - (Places to Visit on Kos)

Matt J          1/10

click to enlargeExactly what you would expect from such a small island - TINY airport!

Arriving in Kos was fine, straight through passport control, recieved our luggage within minutes and onto our coach .

Coming home however was a nightmare!  After standing outside in a queue in the sun for over an hour we started moving and had to join another queue inside to check in.  There was TWO people on the check-in desks for several flights.  We got through check-in with about 45 minutes before our flight was due to leave.

Since we had been picked up from our hotel at 11:45am we decided to go try get some food since by this point it was about 2pm.  We got to a food kiosk, but got to the front of the queue to be told they were closing for a break and to go to another.  We went to another and they too were closing!

It was then announced to go to Passport Control (not just our flight, several flights at once).  There was ONE woman on passport control!  The queue was all over the place, and nobody knew what was going on.  People were joining the queue at the front and going straight through while some had to queue for over half an hour, causing our flight to be delayed.

Sunset Aparthotel - (Accommodation in Tingaki)

Matt J          10/10

click to enlarge click to enlarge click to enlargeI wouldn't go back to Tingaki without staying in this hotel.  The place is fantastic!

There was only my partner and myself and our room had four beds in it! The room was much bigger than we had expected!  We had a dressing table, fridge with a freezer compartment, kettle, toaster, oven rings, wardrobe, etc.  The only thing we didn't have which would have been handy was a pair of scissors!  Our room had a balcony which overlooked the pool (see photo).  We could also see Kalymnos and Turkey from our balcony.

The hotel itself had a childrens pool and an adult pool (although children seemed to prefer the adult pool!).  A warning though, the main pool is very deep (about 3.5 metres in the deepest part!).  There were free sunbeds around the pool (without cushioning so we reccomend you buy lilos when you arrive or if you are lucky like we were, people leaving will leave theirs behind for you!).  You do not NEED to go out early to get a sunbed either although we often went out and put our towels down because we were up.  The pools got cleaned every day (scooped, hoovered, etc) and the sunbeds washed.

Other facilities at the hotel included crazy golf, table tennis, tennis court, basketball, pool table and big screen TV in reception area showing sports events.

There were two bars - a pool side bar open 10am til 6pm (ran by the fantastic Illios) and a bar in the reception area open 6pm til 2am.  The pool side bar serves snacks throughout the day although you are best off waiting until the maid arrives around 12:30ish as she can make anything you want (bacon, eggs, chicken, salads, toasted sandwhiches, etc) - Illios could only make burgers or chips.  Food and drinks were reasonably priced too.

The staff at the hotel were fantastic.  They went out of thier way to make your holiday the best.  Rooms were cleaned every day apart from Sunday and sheets were changed once a week.

One day we had to have the Doctor out to our room and he prescribed some medicine for my partner which we had to collect from the Chemist.  Since it was Sunday the nearest Chemist was in Kos Town and only one would be open, the man on the reception desk at the time said he would ring his brother for me (who also worked at the hotel) and have him collect it and bring it to the hotel for us!  The other staff were fab too!

We had a massive Supermarket opposite the hotel which sold everything we could have needed and we were only about 1km from the beach.

We stayed in July and the weather was very hot.  Air conditioning is available at a charge of 100 Euros for 2 weeks or fans can be hired from Theokritos Travel (situated on the main road, on the left hand side as if you were facing the beach).  We managed without either but thought we would mention it anyway!

Fantastic hotel, fantastic staff, great location - would definately return!

Tingaki - (Exchange Rates on Kos)

Matt J

I was at Tingaki 4th July to 18th July 2007 and Theokristas Travel DO charge comission (2%) if you exchange travellers cheques there.  I can't comment on anything else because all we took was travellers cheques.

In Tingaki we got roughly £70 for 100 Euros which is more than we got back home in England.
