Tingaki Resort - (Resorts on Kos)

Nicki G

I went to Tigaki with my boyfriend in early July 2006 as we'd read some excellent reviews about it on sites like this - and we werent disappointed at all!

The resort itself is more or less just made up of the one main street with shops, bars and restaurants running down each side. There's a lovely beach at one end with some of the clearest blue water i've ever seen and then the other end is mostly hotels and goes up to the main road which stretches down the length of Kos itself. Also at this end is an excellent supermarket which sells everything you could need.

It doesn't take more than 15 minutes to walk from one end of Tigaki to the other - very compact resort.

Perfect for couples or possibly families who want a fairly quiet holiday with no loud clubs or Club18-30 types hanging around.

Would definitely go back!

Kos Airport - (Places to Visit on Kos)

Nicki G

Inbound - no problems at all... off the plane, through passport control, got luggage and on to a bus to our resort in no time at all.

Outbound - this is where you need patience! We were lucky to be one of the first buses to get to the airport for our particular flight so were the first in the queue. The queue starts outside the airport building (smaller than your local asda store in the UK) and you are gradually ushered into the building to get checked in at one of only 4 (i think) desks (bearing in mind there are probably a good 5 or so flights trying to get checked in!)

What seating there is fills up rapidly leaving people to just sit on the floor.

The tannoy announcements are quiet so be sure not to miss your boarding call.

Not a very pleasant expereience.

Trip to Nysiros Volcano - (Kos Excursions)

Nicki G

Well worth a visit!

We booked it through our first choice rep at our hotel and found the whole day a very well organised, interesting experience.

You have time to look around the town on Nysiros (your typical greek town - beautiful winding, narrow streets, good selection of tavernas to get a snack or a drink) and if you get a chance walk up to the monestary - even if you don't go inside, the views from the top of the hill give you an excellent photo opportunity!

Then it's into the volcano. The tour guide was very informative about the island, as well as the volcano itself. A bus takes you up one side of the volcano then drop down inside the crater on very narrow windy roads so if you don't like heights it may be a good idea to shut your eyes!

Once inside the main crater you have chance to have chance to look around and actually go inside the smaller, active craters and see things like boiling mud and steam vents.

It does get extremely hot down down there though as there is no wind and with the sulphur gases it is a very smelly experience!  But nevertheless one well worth having!

Marianna Studios - (Accommodation in Tingaki)

Nicki G

Me and my boyfriend stayed in the Marianna Studios in early July 2006. We'd read mixed reviews about the place saying there were good and bad blocks and some rooms werent very clean.

We believe we got one of the rooms in the 'worse' block, but it wasn't bad at all. As people will have said before there is no shower stand and you have to hold the head of the shower whilst using it but you get used to it after a while.

Also for a self catering studio we didn't think the 'kitchen' was up to much. You are resticted as to what you can cook because there is only a fridge, kettle and two hob rings and a sink. Cutlery and utensils are provided but you will need your own washing up liquid etc. There's a very handy supermarket 2 minute's walk away (turn right out of the hotel) selling everything you need.

There is no air-con, though you can hire fans from reception. We were lucky as we had a ground floor studio which didnt get too hot because of the shade from the trees next to our balcony.

The pool is excellent with lots of inflatables and sunloungers and there is a mini bar next to it which serves food and drinks until about 7pm. There is also a bar next to reception which serves drinks until 2am and has a big widescreen tv (they showed all the world cup games whilst we were there!)

Depending where your room is you might find it's a bit noisey at night from all the mopeds flying past but we found this soon quietens down.

Overall a very pleasant place to stay!

First Choice - (Tour Operators on Kos)

Nicki G

Very good service throughout the holiday  - Gemma was an excellent rep too - very helpful!

3 Island Cruise - (Kos Excursions)

Nicki G

This was for me one of the highlights of the holiday - a day on a boat to sit back, sunbathe and just relax! We booked it through our tour operator - First Choice.

The 3 stops are great for a bit of swimming in the clear blue sea and you can see some of the marine life as well if you can get hold of some of the snorkling equipment on board the boat.

You get a bbq at the first stop which consists of salad, Soulvaki and bread - very nice!

Remember to take suncream, plenty of water and of course your camera and you won't go far wrong with this one!

Tingaki Beach - (Beaches on Kos)

Nicki G

Excellent all round beach which is perfect for kids

The water is clear and blue and is very safe for kids as you have to walk quite a way out to get any real depth. A bit of seaweed just as you start walking into it and a few bits elsewhere but for me, someone who hates seaweed, it wasn't bad at all!

Plenty of sunbeds for hire at varying prices but you can't really get a bad spot.  There's a nice bit of wind as well which keeps the temperature down slightly.

There's some watersports available here too, but we did find the prices a bit steep.

Definitely one of, if not the best beach on the island.
