Myros Hotel - (Accommodation in Tingaki)

Apts. have new sheets/towels and are cleaned regularly. In a good position, 5 mins away from the beach and 10 mins away from the town. Helpful staff but the bar is not that lively and there were cheaper places to drink in the town. Salads and toasties as bar meals were good, sunbeds not too comfortable, take thick towels or buy a lilo to soften the blow! Beds squeaky, tried washing up liquid but suggest you take WD40! Tingaki itself not the prettiest of towns but has a good sand beach and seems popular with German tourists. Plenty of places to eat, most serving the same fare, mainly with chips. Recommend Tigaki Grill, Ampeli (turn right and head out of the town)and a place just beyond Tigaki Grill with a sign in Greek (surprise!) which has a picture of 3 male Greek dancers on it if you like fewer chips and more trad dishes. No hangovers from teh house wine - hurrah! Mossies are rife, take precautions. Hiring a bike is the best way to see the island although the buses are cheap, hire them from a place in the town not the ones nearest the apts. as it is cheaper. Tours are cheaper from the town rather than through the rep. Don't expect free tipples with the bill (boo!) as you get in Crete. Didn't find the natives as friendly as those we met in Crete/Rhodes but it was the end of a long season. Not much in Kos town. Saw some great butterflies, birds and flowers not to mention some interesting mammals on the nudist beach on the way to Marmari! Had a good holiday but we probably won't go back to Kos.

Ambeli - (Restaurants in Tingaki)

The best looking taverna in Tingaki - draped in vine leaves. Off the beaten track, walk along teh beach out of town and bear left round Hotel? Byron and follow the signs for the taverna. The white house wine is good, don't have the anchovies as a starter as they are out of a tin and v salty! Doesn't have a huge menu but well worth a visit, a beautiful place to eat with very good service.

Found the staff a bit miserable (but it was the end of the season) but the food was nice. Avoid the fried aubergines as a starter as they were covered in batter adn very very greasy!

Ok we are are the odd ones out! The starters were ok but I had pasta and the other half had a pizza and both were poisonously salty, so much so we couldn't eat it (rare for us to leave food!). The house wine however was good. Sorry!

Tingaki Grill - (Restaurants in Tingaki)

Yum yum yum! Drinkers gyros (pork keebab - real pork meat [not English mechanically reclaimed unidentifiable meat keebab] in a chilli sauce)and souvlaki (swordfish and salmon) are de-lic-ious! You can watch them being cooked. The mixed veg and garlic puree starter is HUGE! Also try the Tomato 'scandal' which is a tom stuffed with feta with chilli sauce cooked in foil and prawn saganaki starter, prawns in cheese and tomato sauce - mmmmm! Ate there 3 times but having had boring meals elsewhere wished we'd gone there more.

October - (Best Time to Visit)

Rachel P

2 afternoons too windy to sunbathe without shelter and an awful storm one evening with approx 1 1/2 days of rain and a few minor rumbles of thunder. The rest of the time was cloudy but nice and warm so can't complain. Take a cardie for the evenings and watch out for the mozzies! We went last week Sept, first week Oct.
