I went to the CARAVAN RESTAURANT in May and June and as usual it was very good. A few photo's of my friends.

James C

what can u say about the caravan other than first class. Hasan is the most genuine friendly guy you are likely to meet. The food is superb , we tried most things on the menu my favourite was the bekri meze , a plate full of chicken in a spicey sauce with rice chips veg and salad all for only 8 euros.

If you are wanting a quick meal or an early night then this is not the place for you , before you can get the bill Hasan has to come and make yamas with u first which includes a round of drinks on the house!!!. For the wine drinkers you may want to try the apelia red, which at 6 euros a bottle is a real bargain .
Can,t  wait to return there next year, so YAMAS HASAN

James C

visated in june, used this place 4-5 times.what can I say apart from superb.Hasan is the nicest and most genuine guy you will ever meet and the food is second to none.We tried most of the menu,my fav was the bekri meze ( spicy chicken ) . If you do visit be prepaired to stay late as you can,t leave without making several yamas with hasan before you get your bill.If you like red wine try the apelia at 6 euros a bottle definately value for money.

John B

Visited Hasan again in June 05 and it was as manic as usual - place full with Hasan bravely trying too cope with the impossible and managng to do it. Everything we remembered from previous visits was justified - highly recommended- but get there before 8.30 if you want a table.

David M

If there is a better host than Hasan in Kos I have yet to find him. Service, food quality and price cannot be beaten. He will also give you a free drink for a yamas. (Went there 3 times last year and this year)

Don't go here if you are in a hurry but go if you want to take your time enjoying your food and the company.

Marit L

I agree that Caravan is one of the best restaurants in Kos Town. The food and service is top, and to pay take ages because Hassan would like to talk to you and give you a drink before you go on. I'm visiting Caravan several times during my holiday on Kos, and this year I will be there twice.

Jan T

Cool Tony, too bad we won't see you in June, but you may surprise us, maybe you booked a trip there anyway!

Have a nice day!!

diane taylor (September 27, 2004) - RE: Your comments.
Hi Diane,
Sorry that I have not replied earlier but I have only just returned from Kos. The Caravan will still be open although not that busy but it is a good restaurant. Maybe a little too far to go at this time of the year, it is great if you are in Kos Town, but most of the food in kos is good.
Tigaki is about 12 Km from Kos town and as I eat mainly in Kos Town I do not know the names od The Restaurants in Tigaki but I have eaten in a good one just off the main square on the front to the left if you are facing the sea. The mossies are not that bad in October but it is best to take a roll on and put it on your legs, ankles and arms before you go out at night, one of the best is named Jungle Formula and you can get it from Tesco's or somewhere.

If you want any more information please email me on:-
tonyainsworth@aol.com and I will give you my telephone number.

WE WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO TELL EVERYONE WHAT GREAT FOOD AND HOSPITALITY WE RECEIVED FROM HASSAN AND HIS FAMILY AT THE CARAVAN. NEVER BEFORE HAVE I BEEN IN A RESTARAUNT WHERE THE OWNER TAKES TIME TO SPEAK TO, AND HAVE A GLASS OF WINE OR AN OUZO WITH EVERY ONE OF HIS CUSTOMERS. HASSAN EVEN GAVE US INFORMATION ON THE BEST BOAT TRIPS AND EXCURSIONS TO GO ON.
AT THE CARAVAN YOU ARE NOT A CUSTOMER YOU ARE A FRIEND. THANKS FOR MAKING OUR HOLIDAY HASSAN. JOAN, MATT & LAURA XXXX

Louise J

Well what can we say about the Caravan....food, service, hospitality, company and the atmosphere is amazing.
The Caravan is not the type of restaurant where you order, eat and pay- OH NO!!, indeed... you are encouraged to slip into the Greek pace of life and to take time in ordering, eating and soaking up the Greek atmosphere and generosity, as you relax in to the late hours you will find yourself sharing a drink with the owners Hasan and his wife, Havaset (and if you are there at the right time, their friend and ours, Tony).

In our wide and varied travels all around the world the Caravan definitely falls into our top 5 list of restaurants, however we can say unreservedly the hospitality is second to none.

Rosemarie G

We ate at the Caravan about twelve times during our two week stay and it was fantastic. Tony is right Hasan and his family are great hosts and they made us feel like family. We can't wait to go back again. Would recommend everything we ate there - Hasan's generosity and kindness is legendary and we spent many a long evening enjoying his (and for some of the time Tony's) company! Definitely try to Bekri Meze a la Tony - if you like something spicy. The Stifado which is a beef stew is also delicious. Hasan rustled some up for us on our first night in Kos (about midnight) and we ate it again on our last night there. Go there and feel really welcome - make an occasion out of eating - looking forward to our next visit very much. Everything was good value and Hasan and his family lovely. Don't miss it....

THE CARAVAN RESTAURANT - KOS TOWN
52 Amerikis Street, on the Lambi side of town.

Once again this May I visted Kos and stayed at The captains Hotel in Kos Town. Most nights I had my evening meal at the CARAVAN Restaurant where I met up with friends old and new. I would like to hello to Bjorn & Eva from Norway, Jan & Cathy from Sweden, Jos and his wife from Belgium, Margaret & Grumpy, Garry & Barbara from England and a special thanks to Eamon and Maureen from Ireland.( I hope you enjoyed Rhodes)
All the meals I had were very good and I can reccomend the Pork Steak, it was very very good. As usual Hassan worked very hard to keep his customers happy and he 'YIAMASSED' with everyone, a top host.

Pay a visit to the Web Site.

Many greetings to Jan and his wife from Belgium!

Jos B

For the first time, we were in Kos from 24 to 31 may 2004 and we had a wonderfull time. The first evening, hungry as we were, we left our hotel (Imperial) and on the other side of the street we founded a little restaurant. It was already late, but no problem: we got a very nice menu and all the days of the week we wented there again! Also we meeted interesting people: Jan and his wife from Sweden, Tony from England, many others... but most of all, the beautifull chief: Hasan!!! Thanks for all. We'll meet again!

Jan T

Another trip to kos is over.
As usual, the food and company at The Caravan is the best.
We met some new friends there this year, from Belgium (hope you enjoyed the trip), and from England and Norway.

Hope to see you next time we will be there.

Regards Jan & Cathy

We visted the Caravan many times, it is a great place where many Norwegians gather to eat and get merry.
Tonight we are in Oslo with Dagfinn, Britt, Bjørn, Eva, Grethe, Ulf and Crazy Tony from England.
All the best for 2004.

Eamonn H

Hi Everybody, Maureen & I are regulars in Caravan, and feel like family when we return every year.... the welcome from Hasan alone is
unbelievable. We have always found the food terrific, best on Kos. For value, you cannot beat it. I particularly recommend the soups.. fresh every day/ also the lamb kleftico, souvlakis etc. Be sure to try the Ouzo ! Impossible not to !! And the Caliga Ruby is excellent!
Hoping to return in May for more magic evenings...

We had to ask for directions to the caravan after seeing all the comments on this site. But everyone seemed to know of it so we visited on our second night. What an experience. As luck would have it it was fairly quiet (october) but even so at 8-00pm we got the last two tables. Being British we expected a quick meal and we were quite prepared to rush it and make way for someone else.WRONG it doesn't work that way at the caravan.Three and a half hours later we were still there, and I dont mean this as a bad thing, we were having a ball. All the other diners were the same ones we started our meal with and not one of them had left either. Hassan the owner is a really nice guy, He insists on buying drinks for all his guests, ( He must have liked us cos he bought us two caraffe's and five glasses of ouzo, plus a huge plate of Tzatziki, and several baskets of fresh bread ) His friendliness and generosity was completly genuine and we went back another two times simp;y because we never found anywhere better. Tony came in halfway through our meal and was very helpfull
answering all our questions about car hire and excursions, We took his advice and can honestly say we got some good deals. We went back on our final day and Yamassed with Hassan but still could not buy him a drink instead he bought us some again!
OUR RECCOMENDATIONS
Hassan's Bekri Mese is to die for. It consists of pork and/or chicken cooked in olive oil, tomatoe sauce, onions, spices. and chilli peppers
If you like your food hot just order it from the menu as it is, If you prefer it less spicy just tell him, and he will make it to your liking
Caraffe of ouzo costs about 3 euros serves about seven, though chances are he'll give tou at least one for nothing
caraffe of wine, there are about six to choose from and they cost next to nothing, they are all very good
Greek salad, very good value only order one per couple they are large
Saginaki, Cheese fried in flour, superb appetiser, trust me I'm a doctor.

By the way you will probably feel sorry for poor Hassan as he serves all the meals and the drinks and takes all the orders himself, dont worry he loves to rush around he enjoys it that way, and he still finds time to Yamass with all his guests at least once
Hope your experience will be as good as ours was YAMASS!

Jan T

Hope we get a week in May too.
Hopefully we will be there when you are Tony.

See ya!

Tony A

To Hilary Walsh, re the last entry.

Hi Hilary,
I agree with you, you should have given The Caravan a try. Value for money it is very good, but it is also very busy and if you don't mind waiting, the food is also very good, as is the host.
Like yourself I have tried many restaurants in Kos including The Allatola Hamman in Giagora Square, The Palace, and many more which are very good but I mainly eat at The Caravan these days as Hassan is my fried and I know many people who use the restaurant.
In June you will meet Hassan, but I will not be there as I am going for the last 2 weeks in May, have a great holiday.

Hilary W

Have really enjoyed reading all the latest comments on Caravan. I have been going to Kos twice a year for the last 10 years and have never been to this restaurant. After reading all the reviews I decided to give it a try when I was there in September. I was a bit disappointed when I arrived, I thought it looked like a cafe, so we went elsewhere. I have just read a similar comment. I should have known better after all my time in Kos. A lot of the really nice looking places eg. Anatolia Hammam look lovely, but I have never got any amazing food in any of them. So I will definitely give it a go when I visit Kos again in June. Must meet the famous Tony and Hassan. I am more familiar with the Psalidi end of town. Tony - do you ever venture up there. if you do where do think is nice???

Colin & sue T

Thank you Tony for suggesting we try "The Caravan" most evenings we ate there and it was supurb. you are right though - after 8pm most tables are taken! Hassan is quite a character! I urge anyone to hunt the place out (a little hard to find!) and try the lamb chops(6 at least per portion)and Moussaka to die for.

Jan T

It is sad to read some of the comments made here.
Hassan is the friendliest man on Kos, and his wife and family too.

And Tony, he is a good man too know, he knows the island inside&out, more than that, he is very a generous(sorry for the spelling) mguy, I can't wait until next spring to visit Kos again, and Hassan, and maybe Tony is there too.

Take care Tony and say hello to Hassan from me and Cathy when you meet him.

We will send him a X-mas card made in photoshop, ask him to show it to you next year, you will be on the photo too.

THE CARAVAN RESTAURANT - KOS TOWN.

I have just returned from my holiday to Kos and I have read the comments which were submitted by MR PETER COOK KENT (September 19, 2003)

Mr Cook Kent you are correct in submitting your opinion as this is what this site is for, but CONMAN I an not.....
are ALL the other people wrong?

Next time you vist Kos try McDonald's
it should suit you as your seem to want FAST food!!

Vanessa D

Hi

I also felt the need to write & say i thought the comments about Tony & The Caravan were unjustified.
If you didn't like Tony there was no need to humiliate him in this way.
I think the info he gives is excellent & very helpful.
And as for the caravan how can anyone say the food is rubbish. It is all excellent & very good value for money.

Sharon C

Regarding my only previous entry (March 24 2003) my husband and I have just returned from our second visit to Kos this year. Once again we had a brilliant time and can't wait for next year. However, I felt obliged to voice my distain at the comments of Peter Cook Head (September 19 2003) directing derisory comments at Mr Tony Ainsworth. We met Tony on our first visit to Kos five years ago and have kept in touch ever since. He is very friendly, approachable and is a mine of information on Kos (very helpful for the uninitiated!). In fact you will note that he has made several valid contributions to this site.

About the Caravan. In a way it is a victim of it's own success. Yes, it is a small family run restaurant. Yes, it does get very busy. but - chill out, you're on holiday! The food is great, reasonably priced and a warmer welcome you could not receive from Hasan. Mr Head, we can't all be wrong! PS. I am not being paid for this plug!

Steve

Ate at the caravan 3 times during our trip, and the food was perfect 2 out of 3 times. Hassan is a genuinely great guy, and serves the best Metaxa on Kos (probably because it was free). The shrimp comes highly recommended - more like king prawns. You'll leave very well fed for around 10 - 12 Euros a head.

Stuart /

After looking on this web site - We thought the Caravan was must! Took us over 1/2 hour to find it. When we got there, the restaurant was full, with only one spare table. We were greated by a friendly man who seated us, yep!! - Tony Ainsworth. We told him about the site and he smiled and said "The comments were mainly all mine!!" and flashed us his business card. There were three other tables who had read the comments and decided to visit the Caravan that night. A bit disappointed, had we been tricked??, we decided to stay and eat. The food was nice, but I must agree Hassan is the perfect host, extremely friendly and gave us many free drinks of Ouzo!! - Yamas!! a cracking guy. I would visit this place for Hassan infectious friendliness and generousity. Tony must really like Hassan, he even helped out waitering at times. Very cheap too!!

Paul C

The most Genuine man (Hassan) you will ever meet in your life. The place isnt easy to find, However, the food, service, quality and price are superior to any other restaurant in KOS town.

We ate there 10 nights out of 14 primarily due to the quality and genuine hospitality. This is a genuine family run business, by an an owner who cares (not like the other smash and grab restaraunts)

Get there before 8pm otherwise you may have to wait for a table. Fore warned is fore armed.

Carol M

We ate here loads, food was great, Hassan is lovely, the hardest working man i've ever seen. The meatballs, stifado and mousakka were our faves, just dont be in a rush to leave, Hassan will insist on buying you one more drink!!

Just returned from Kos again and as usual the Caravan Restaurant was very busy every night and the food was excellant.
It IS the best value for money in Kos Town and it is worth the wait.

Tony Ainsworth - July 2003
Note - July is TOO hot for me, 36 / 37.C

Jan T

And thank you Tony for a lovely trip!!!!
See you next time we come to Kos!

Jan T

Thank you Hassan for 2 wonderful weeks!!!!!

It breaks my heart everytime we have to say goodbye to Hassan.
We will be back.

To everyone who hasn't been there yet,Go to Caravan and eat, drink and enjoy the company of other guests and Hassan.

I can't wait until next time!

Margaret T

THE CARAVAN RESTAURANT.

We read Tony's comments and decided to give it a try. When we found it we thought twice as it was in one of the back streets and just looked like a cafe. Anyway we decided to give it a try, after a while we managed to order and we were very pleased with everthing, Tony was right the food was excellant and Hassan was a great host. It took ages to pay as he kept buying us drinks. We shall definitly go back next time we are in Kos.

AWA - MAY 2003

Vanessa D

Hi
We have just got back this morning from 2 weeks in Kos & had again a wonderful time.
We spent most of our evenings at The Caravan & the food is still as excellent as ever.
Hasan was as charming as always & still believing "NO OUZO NO LIFE"
Ouzo is his answer to everything.
His Mousaka is wonderful & so are the meatballs (can't rememberwhat they are called)
I can honestly say whatever you have you will not be dissapointed.

It is definately the best reastaurant in Kos Town.

Go & enjoy!!!!!

Vanessa

Rebecca N

The first place, last place and in between place to eat is the Caravan Restaurant owned by our friend and everyone's friend Hassan who never forgets you and greets you like one of his family. His wife does the cooking and the food is excellent. We particularly like his swordfish steaks and chicken souvlaki. If you like good food, meeting lots of old and new friends, and being thoroughly entertained by an excellent host called Hassan please try the Caravan Restaurant in Kos Town, Amerikas Street. Occasionally he has a friendly waiter called Tony the Hat who will guide you to the best sightseeing in Kos and the cheapest.

Once again I have been to Kos for 2 weeks and I met many of my friends in THE CARAVAN RESTAURANT. I would beg you NOT to go in the last 2 weeks of MAY next year as it is now so busy I cannot get in myself to enjoy his wonderful food.

The best food and prices in Kos.
Hassan is the Greatest!!

Jan R

As a regular guest to the greek islands Crete, Rhodes and most recently now, Kos ; I must say that finding a better restaurant, with cheaper prices, better service and a personal better host than on the "Caravan" in Kos, is impossible! Hassan is, together with his wife and family, some of the finest and nicest people we've ever met. I've been 32 times in Crete, since 1988, but I've never found anything like the "Caravan". This restaurant therefore comes highly recommended from us and all the food here is exellent! Try out Hassan's special Bekri Meze, either with pork or chicken, it's unbelievable!Kali orexi, friends! Try it out, Hassan won't disappoint you!

Jan T

What can I say, we are going to Cos 23 of May for 2 weeks, this will be my 5th time and I know Hassan will hug us and kiss us when we arrive.
What better welcome can you get!?!?
He has so many visitors at his restaurant every year, but still he recognize you when you go there, he is the best host and his wife the best cook on Cos.
Go there, relax and enjoy!
If you come at the same time I'm there, It's a good chance I'm there, guess Tony will be there too.

ENJOY!!!!

Richard M

THE CARAVAN RESTAURANT - KOS TOWN

What more can I say as I agree with ALL the previous comments. Both the food and atmosphere are excellent. Going again on 16th of May.

Brian M

We enjoyed our visit to THE CARAVAN RESTAURANT in Kos Town, I agree with most of the other comments on this site that the food is excellent, and the owner HASSAN is a great guy who works his socks off. And I can only add that looking at the number of people who seem to go to THE CARAVAN, it's no wonder that you have to wait a little to get served. Now for a tip, if you want a quick meal
arrive before 8.30.pm.

Richard F

Delicious, freshly prepared food. It's worth waiting that liitle bit longer for food that is so fresh. Friendly staff and atmosphere... what more do you need?

Janet B

THE CARAVAN RESTAURANT IN KOS TOWN

We visited the Caravan last year and really enjoyed it. Excellent food and friendly atmosphere. We tried the A'la Tony and enjoyed it. Be prepared to wait as the food is all freshly cooked. Next time we are in Kos we will definitely go again.

THE CARAVAN RESTAURANT - KOS TOWN

We visited the Caravan Restaurant for the first last year and we found it to be of excellent value. The owner Hassan made us feel very welcome without being pushy - We would have no hesitation in recommending this Restaurant. We also met a guy by the name of Tony who told us about other things to do in Kos, look at his comments.

Sharon C

My husband David and I always get a good welcome at the Caravan as Hasan is an excellent host and we have met many people who are regulars there like us. David's favourite is the peppered steak and I love the greek salad - more than enough for one and very generous with the feta cheese! Things can get a bit hectic so be prepared for a leisurely wait, but that's part of the holiday and to have a drink and a chat! Also we go quite often for breakfast before a hard days' relaxing!

Roy W

I found that THE CARAVAN RESTAURANT in KOS TOWN was very good value for money. It is situated at the Lambi end of AMERIKIS STREET. The owner HASSAN is a gentleman and he makes everyone very welcome. It is ideally situated for the following accommodation:- The Captains Hotel, The Imperial Hotel, The Lydia Apartments, The Lanaki Apartments and The Bahamas Hotel. My advice is to go along and try an A'LA TONY' ( Spicy Hot Chicken ) Very Good.

George B

I vist Kos in May and have done so for the past 15 years. I have tried many restaurants in Kos Town and I have found THE CARAVAN RESTAURANT in Amerikis Street to be the most friendly and the best.HASSAN the owner is an exceptional host and always makes us fell at home. We go there and meet many of the same clients every year. I would like to point out that it is NOT a place to visit if you are in a hurry, as all the food is cooked to order.

Vanessa D

We have been to Kos twice & can honestly say that the Caravan is defintely the best restaurant for excellent food & great value for money.
Hassan the owner is a lovely man & makes you feel really welcome.

All the food is nice, the greek salads are lovely, souvlaki & the pizzas are also very good.

It is really worth trying to find & seeing for yourself.

Have a great time.

Vanessa

Tony A

I go to Kos on a regular basis and I find the Caravan one of the best value Resaurants in Kos. Hassan, the owner is very friendly and will buy you a drink to say thanks. I have eaten may meals there but try the A'La Tony. (Named after me) it is a dish of chicken pieces done in a spicy sauce of peppers and onions - a little on the hot side. I can also reccomend the slouvaki dishes, they are all very good. Now for a tip, if there are two of you only order one Greek salad between you as they are very big. He also serves breakfast from 9.00.a.

The Caravan Restaurant is situated at 52 Amerikis Street towards the Lambi area. It is very convienient for the Elite, Lydia, Lynaki Apartments as well as the Captains Hotel.

You will enjoy it if you are NOT in a hurry!! The food IS freshly prepared.

Jan T

THE best restaurant in Kos town!
Good food, good prices and the owner Hassan is one of the friendliest man I met on Kos, he will do almost anything for you.
