Christina

Accommodation in Mastihari

Helen K

This is a message for Laz Allen. We are off to revisit Mastihari in a couple of weeks and are staying at the Christina. I am somewhat concerned about your comments re the building that is going on. Can you tell me how bad it is please and were you really disturbed by it?
Thanks a lot.

The Christina was ok at the start but over the week we were there a few problems presented themselves;
1. the rooms were only cleaned twice during our 7 day stay, and that includes the bin by the toilet - so that was a bit manky
2. the owners do NOT speak ANY English - i mean none nada not a hi hello or a goodbye. if you want to speak to anyone (assuming you don't speak Greek) you have to go down to the Horizon Bar (great food) and speak to their son (who might own the place). this obviously presents a problem when asking for the room to be cleaned or anything to fixed.
3. you get kicked out at 11 with no where to put your stuff or have a shower later on, this is a problem since most Manos flights don't leave until 3 in the morning
-and most ANNOYING of all-
4. The Beds, yes that’s plural, cos the beds are singles, not exactly what me and my girlfriend had in mind ;) the beds are of a sort of cot construction in that the mattress (which is hard) is surrounded by a wooden edge about 4cm wide, this means that even when pushed together you get a 8cm solid wood gap, which is about as comfortable as a breeze block.

In conclusion its ok if you want to rough it but not quite up to scratch if you want to relax and get on with things, oh and its next to a building site.

We had a look in the Illios and Irene apartments which are 150m from the Christina, this place is the same price as the Christina but has a bar, tv, internet, etc.. and is staffed by 3 full time very friendly English speaking people. if we go again I’d chose the I&I over Christina.

We stayed at the Christina appartments two years ago and are returning this summer. They are not right in the centre of Mastihari, but you can cut through the sand dunes to get to the beach, so you don't have to go right down into the village. It is very peaceful there with nice views across the countryside. We were in the older block of the two, and found it to be fine. The newer block was even nicer. Owners very friendly too.

Fantastic apartments, best I've ever stayed in anywhere in Greece. Kitchens are normally just 2 electric rings and a sink I've found but here the kitchen was brilliant! several cupboards, several cooking rings and extractor as well - The bathroom even had a shower curtain, I was struck dumb! Excellent friendly service by the manageress too. I would definitely go back!
