Athinoula Hotel

Accommodation in Kefalos

Steve T

My wife and I have been to the Athinoula for the last three years the first two weeks in August. We have met some good friends there in other guests particularly Dave and Val from Corby who have been there four years running. The family dog is never any trouble and I've never heard it bark at 5.30 in the morning. The Hotel and rooms are cleaned daily as is the the pool ,I talk to the cleaners from my balcony each morning during my stay. The Peros family have always made us feel welcome even on our first visit in 2001. Breakfast is continental but a cooked breakfast is available at a small charge normal in any Hotel I've visited. The BBQ night is very good value, good fun and worth staying back for. Bar prices, pool bar prices are similair to those in the surrounding bars and tavernas. The resort is quiet if thats what your looking for but, just a short walk to the Harbour area has a very lively number of bars.
The Hotel is just back from the main road within easy walking distance from the beach, tavernas and restraunts and we would recommend the Hotel to anybody.
Mrs Beaton in my view must have stayed at a totally different Hotel or gone there in the off season or she's just plain loko.

We arranged our holiday privately by direct contact with the Hotel and booked two weeks, from 4 Sep 03 to 18 Sep 03, after having found the positive comments on this web site. The Peros family are lovely and make you very welcome. The rooms are cleaned daily, with clean towels every day. As for Mrs Beatons comments about the dog, we never heard or saw the dog in question. The Hotel is located 100 yds back from the main road, hence very quiet at night, and only 50 more yds to the beach. We will certainly be back.

Please DISREGARD everything that Margaret Beaton wrote on July 11, 2003.

We have just returned from our first of many holidays at Hotel Athinoula and found the Peros family very hospitable. They do everything they can to make you feel comfortable. The bar and snack prices are very comparable with other bars and restaurants nearby. The hotel is kept very clean.

The family dog never awaked us and he was tied up behind the snack bar, which was right outside our balcony. When I spoke to other guests about him they didn't realise that there was a dog.

Athinoula is situated near the sea front and well within walking distance of the supermarkets, restaurants and bars.

The pool area is very adequate with many sun loungers and umbrella’s.

Overall we had a very enjoyable holiday and would highly recommend Hotel Athinoula to anybody, whether you are single or have children you'll have a great time.

We are already planning our holiday for next year.

It needs the Thumbs Up !!!!!

We have just got back from the Athinoula Hotel. It was our first time to both the hotel and Kefalos. My girlfriend and I had great time. The family that own and run the hotel made us feel very welcome. The rooms, towels, pool, snack bar etc. were all cleaned daily. We found the location to be perfect; set back from the main road and just 5 minutes walk from everything we needed, including the beach.

We would recommend this hotel to anybody and will be going back as soon as possible.

Overall - Excellent.

As an x holiday rep in Kefalos I have seen a fair few of the hotels in Kefalos and i would definatly say this is one of the best - set back off the main road you avoid the traffic but are still close enough to stroll into the main bars and Tavernas. The pool is delightful, kept very clean and has a snack bar that offers a wide range of food something to suit every one. One night a week the family have a Greek BBQ which is very good value for money - mouth watering meats and traditional greek salad with a complimentry wine to go with it. When I was a rep one thing people would always mention to me about bars, tavernas and hotels they had visited was cleanliness -(rooms and toilets) - this alone could put people off and word spreads through tourists, this hotel is very clean and well looked after. This hotel is a definate must for any one visiting Kefalos wether you are a family or couple it caters for all.

I first stayed at this hotel in August 2001, and liked it so much I returned 6 weeks later again for two weeks. I have just been again in June 2003, having stayed at another Greek Island in 2002 and was very ill. I returned to the Athinoula again in June 2003 and am planning to return in October 2003 as I have been home for 3 weeks and am getting withdrawal symptoms. I am always treated as one of the family, and they try hard to teach me Greek! The rooms and poolside are cleaned every evening. And fortunately there isn't any TV's in the room - who goes on holiday to watch TV! I love it and cannot recommend it highly enough - in fact I have recommended it to everyone I know. Can't wait to return.

I have stayed at the ATHINOULA many times over the last few years and found the hotel, family and the surrounding area to be excellant every time. The family go out of their way to make all their guests feel welcome. The hotel rooms are cleaned daily and at no time in my stays has the pool ect been anything but clean and safe. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. EXCELLANT.

Contrary to previous reports I would not recommend this accommodation to anyone with a pulse. I found the owners to very inhospitable and this was the general feeling of some of the other guests that I spoke to. Bar and snack bar prices were overinflated. Almost every morning we were awoken at 5.30am to the families' large dog barking. It was regularly allowed to run around the pool are and in and out of the snack bar. Guests were often heard complaining. The owners and their extended family all live within the hotel, you are constantly aware of their presence. The satellite TV which is located in the bar area is commandeered by the family who sit and watch Greek channels. The bedrooms alothough clean have no air conditioning which is a must in high temperatures. The pool area is basic - there is no shower to clean feet before entering pool, there were insufficient parasols at the pool terrace, only 4 in total, 2 of which were broken, one almost decapitating my daughter and husband. At no time during my 2 week stay the terraced area or sun loungers being cleaned.
Beside the hotel was a caged football pitch - the noise of the ball hitting the wire fencing was extremely irritating - some nights it continued until 11om. Moterbikes used the waste ground beside the hotel as a racetrack. Breakfast was ham and cheese with break, or cereal - not both. The hotel is surrounded with abandoned construction work which has been there for 2 years. I would not recommend this accommodation to anyone with children.

This hotel we think has to be one of the best located in the area. It,s a short walk for most amenities, supermarkets, bars and beach. The hotel is very clean and the staff are very friendly.Good size swimming pool with snack bar.We would recommend this hotel to anyone.
